The mass-production of chickens and eggs in Britain started in about 1800 with chickens were seen as a by-product to egg production. Nowadays chickens are the world’s most populous birds.

Chicken is an affordable versatile meat that can be used in a wide selection of dishes and is a popular choice with all ages throughout the year.  It wasn’t until the 70’s  that it became the meat of choice for most families and today accounts for nearly half of all the meat bought in the UK – in a recent ARVB survey, the Roast Chicken Dinner took the family favourites pole position.
