Brendan and Petrina started the business over 35 years ago capitalising on Brendan’s butchery expertise, Petrina’s eye for detail and the deep freeze boom of the late 60’s early 70’s.

Initially Brendan and Petrina worked from Stydd Lee, Farm House, Ribchester (Brendan’s family home) putting deep freeze and weekly meat orders together. These were delivered by Brendan and Petrina to customers in local villages during the evening and at weekends.

As a newly married couple, Brendan and Petrina’s drive and ambition to succeed led them to buy the butchers shop on Derby Road Longridge. Brendan; supported by Petrina who manages the accounts: has built the business on traditional butchery skills, quality goods and first class service.

Today the business is very much a family affair with all 5 members of the family involved; there are 17 full time members of staff and several part-time.

Brendan Anderton Butchers is locally a ‘household name’. It is renowned for quality produce and service. This coupled with a flair for innovation in the development of speciality products and the confidence that their loyal customers have in the quality of food bought has seen the business expand over the years from a traditional butcher’s shop into the catering industry supplying: schools, colleges, nursing homes, supermarket, factories, restaurants, pubs, cafes, shops and mobile caterers.

Brendan Anderton Butchers Ltd now trade as Anderton’s Ribble Valley Butchers from a new BRC Accredited, Fully Licensed EC Cutting plant run by Brendan’s two sons Austin and Roger. The addition of this new site has seen the business evolve to meet more stringent regulations; as a result the customer base has expanded to supplying wholesale customers, factories and large organisations. There is a team of dedicated highly skilled Ribble Valley butchers who enable the supply and preparation of meat to any specification. There is a fleet of refrigerated vans that deliver throughout the region.

The product range is extensive covering meat, poultry, wild game, speciality sausage; and Farm House Aga roasted meats.

The family hope that their vision of the future will always maintain Brendan’s businesses ethos: ‘quality service and civility’.
